Slow Creativity
Joshua Tree, CA
If the desert has taught me anything, it’s how to live slowly. The silence of the desert is a gift, it unfolds parts of you in ways that only vast open spaces can do. The subtly of the ecosystem that stirs with every season. The transient flow that passes through the community, which alone takes years to truly know. The coyote that howls outside your window to remind you of your inherent wildness.
Although the desert has forced me to soften my edges, it has brought me back to my creative path in ways that I didn’t think it could. It has helped me turn inward and reintroduce myself to pass times I have lost over the years, in way that help me feel whole. Curating a healthy meal from a place of love, the act of self-soothing through knitting, reigniting my love for teaching yoga and creating lush botanical outdoors spaces with drought tolerate, native plants for people to enjoy.
Yes, I could have achieve all of these things in a different setting but, that is missing the point. The desert has slowed my life down enough to show me what truly matters; nature, community, personal passion, and love. It has left the spaces open enough to passively let the creativity flow.
Although, this may not be my place it the world, I am grateful for the insight it has provided in the short time here.
